We have started production of tinplate!

On February 22, an electrolytic tinning unit was launched at the Miory Rolling mill, which is the final step in tinplate production.

The first batch of white tinplate was produced in the amount of 150 tons. And we have completely worked out the technology. All operations are simply carried out continuously in one machine at a speed of up to 520 m / min. We have achieved synchronization and non-stop operation of the entire line. As the result we’ve got a high quality tinplate tinplate, said deputy General director for production  Vladimir DYAKONOV.

Tinplate is widely used in packaging in the canning and food industries, due to its resistance to solvents (organic, in the first place) – for storing chemical compounds (varnishes, paints, solvents, etc.).

The plant in Miory was built to replace old technologies of tinplate production. Tinplate is produced in Russia and Kazakhstan, but the parameters of their products differ from the parameters of tinplate produced by Miory Steel (MMPZ). Miory Steel products are able to compete on equal terms with the world’s best tinplate producers in Western Europe. There are already buyers from Russia and Europe for the first batch of manufactured products. The plant will cover the needs of Belarus in tinplate (this is about 30 thousand tons / year), however, most of the products under the Miory Steel brand will be exported.

– Currently, we are in the process of obtaining certification of our tinplate according to European and Russian standards, testing each roll, eliminating minor flaws and preparing to bring the unit to full production capacity – which is 150 thousand tons per year, summarised the top manager.
